During the air raid on Giessen on the night of December 6th to 7th, 1944, the city was largely destroyed by units of the British RAF Bomber Command. The attack operation was carried out under the code name Hake ("Pike").
The bombers dropped around 1000 tons of explosive and incendiary bombs on Giessen.
