The cathedral is a baroque and neoclassical style building. Its construction began in 1722 and is considered completed on November 28, 1838, although some works were still pending, such as the choir, the presbytery and the towers.
It stands on the ruins of the old Gothic cathedral. Over the centuries, it has witnessed changes in taste and influential patrons who have left their mark on its architecture, altarpieces, chapels and images.
