The approximately 150-year-old pollard willow avenue used to serve as a graduation tower. In summer, the sprayed brine water dried on the willow branches "...it looked like hoarfrost," reported my father, who operated the spray truck there as a boy in the 1930s. The willows had not been cared for for several years and, in agreement with the local nature conservation authority, I took on this task. Under expert supervision, we cut down half of the approximately 60 willows. The very old and fragile hollow trunks had to be prevented from breaking apart - for example in strong winds.
