Located at 1400 m, it is surrounded by large pastures and centuries-old beech trees. The hut was built in the early 1900s and has a square plan with the "milk logo" upstream instead of downstream. These characteristics make this hut unique and completely different from the classic Balden typology. From here you can admire beautiful views of the lake and the Brescia and Trentino shores. The mountain hut can be reached by going up from Prada or from Due Pozze along the military road or path no. 655.

Near Ortigara there is the small church of Madonna della Neve dated 1663 and built by the Marquises Carlotti who took refuge here to escape the plague of 1630. Every year on August 5th a beautiful festival takes place, which is very much part of the popular tradition.

The pastures surrounding this area are very rich and, especially during spring, are colored blue and yellow due to the abundance of forget-me-nots and buttercups. Near the hut, where the soil is well fertilized, abundant nettles and mountain spinach grow, while at the edge of the woods you can observe, in May, showy blooms of peony and columbine.

The beech forest near Malga Ortigara is the largest and most beautiful on Monte Baldo with centuries-old specimens of beech with very large and imposing trunks.
