Dunedin Station is a transit station and, with its station building, is a landmark of the city of Dunedin. The platform of the station is one of the longest in the country at 450 meters.

The most striking feature of the imposing station building is the rectangular tower on the southwest corner of the building. With a height of over 37 meters, it is visible from afar and has on three sides a 1.5 meter in diameter clock, which is illuminated from the inside at night.

The station building was opened in October 1906.

In the first decades of the twentieth century, when several tens of thousands of travelers were counted at the station every day, this number gradually declined, mostly as a result of the closure of the railway lines that led to Dunedin.
