The magazine was a building where grain reserves were kept for years of bad harvests or other disasters. Each farm had to bring a certain amount of grain to the magazine, and farmers could borrow seed or food grain if needed. The Turaida Parish Magazine was built between 1830 and 1843. Interestingly, the design of the building embodies a transfer from Biedermeier aesthetics to the Neo-Gothic style. In 2005, the Turaida Museum Reserve bought the building and began restoration in 2009.
