The Bramiana Dam artificial lake was built in 1986 in Bramiana to serve the 30,000 greenhouses of Ierapetra. It is located 5 km northwest of the town, where the road connects Ierapetra and Kalamafka village. The lake covers an area of 1,050 hectares and has a capacity of 15 million m³, making it the second largest wetland in southern Greece, after Potami Dam in the Amari Valley.
