These troughs (there are four) are a reliable water source, but about 1.5 miles from the original route of the Oregon Desert Trail. However, you can take an alternate route along some dirt roads east of the southern Aspen Butte instead of west of the butte. The water is clear and cool. When we got there, there was a hissing badger guarding the water, but he left after a few minutes.
