The Rhine-Rhone Canal connects the Rhine, which flows into the North Sea, via the Doub and the Saone, with the Rhone, which flows into the Mediterranean. The watershed is crossed with the help of a total of 99 locks.
Meanwhile, the ships used for commercial shipping are too big. The canal is now only used by leisure boaters.
