    A place to reflect.
In 1872, the municipality of Hooge en Lage Zwaluwe opened a general cemetery at this location. The bodies of foreigners whose identity could not be determined were buried here. They were often the bodies of drowned people who washed up in the harbours of Lage Zwaluwe or Moerdijk. The tidal waters around the Biesbosch can be quite haunted. The cemetery was popularly called the drowning cemetery. The last bodies were removed in the 1970s. The location remains popular as a resting place for cyclists and loitering youth. In the 1990s, the cemetery fell victim to a series of vandalisms. A barren plain remains. In 2007, the population called for respect and restoration of the cemetery.
A working group was formed. With the help of old drawings and photographs, these volunteers set to work rebuilding this drowning cemetery.

The rebuilt cemetery for drowning victims was officially reopened on June 5, 2009.

Pupils from the primary school "DE SCHITTERING" are the ambassadors of the cemetery for drowning victims.
