      The Palazzo Barbieri (also known as Gran Guardia Nuova or City Hall) was built in the first half of the 19th century by engineer Giuseppe Barbieri as the headquarters of the Austrian Civil Guard. It is a large neoclassical building inspired by the ancient forms of Roman temples (with a colonnade, Corinthian portico, and a large triangular facade). Inside are two large paintings by Paolo Farinati and Felice Brusasorci depicting episodes from the history of Verona. It has housed the city administration since 1869.
