The biggest attraction of the Netherlands Maritime Museum is the large naval ship Amsterdam. It offers an excellent panorama of the harbor. The museum itself is housed in a former armory on the mainland. Models of ships, maps, instruments and everything needed for sea voyages are exhibited here. However, the replica of the East India Company's ship Amsterdam is the biggest "blockbuster". It burned down quite recently and was repaired again. People in period costumes accompany the ship and create the atmosphere of long voyages to the east and back.
