The Kleiner Brocken is a 1018.4 m above sea level[1] hill on the northern flank of the Brocken near Wernigerode in the Harz Mountains in the Harz district, Saxony-Anhalt (Germany).

Location

The Kleiner Brocken is located within the Upper Harz (High Harz) in the Harz National Park and in the Harz/Saxony-Anhalt Nature Park. Its summit is around 12 km west-southwest of Wernigerode, 7.5 km southwest of Ilsenburg, 2.6 km south-southeast of the Scharfenstein (697.6 m) and 1.3 km (as the crow flies) north-northwest of the Brocken summit. Its flanks, rich in springs, fall to the east into the valley of the Ilse and to the west into that of the Ecker, which flows through the Ecker reservoir in the northwest.

Landscape

The Kleiner Brocken does not have a distinct summit. Its highest point is on a gently undulating ridge that runs from the Brocken, over the Kleiner Brocken and steeply down towards the Scharfenstein. It is wooded and covered with granite rocks. To the north lies the Bismarck Cliff and a little to the northwest below it lies the Hermann Cliff.
