The Speck family is considered to be the first fiefholders of the Speck estate. In 1470, the estate was owned by the Holstein family as a farm of the Ankershagen estate. In 1726, the Holstein family ran into financial difficulties and the estate was pledged to the Rohr family; from 1743 onwards they were fiefholders.
The manor house is privately owned.
Worth seeing in the village are the "Old Forge", which is now used by artists, the neo-Gothic village church built in 1876 and a more than 800-year-old lime tree.
