Lichtenegg Castle Ruins

The Lichtenegg Castle Ruins are located on the 707 m high Schlossberg near Rimbach in the Kötztinger Land.

Description

Historical
The castle was built in the early 13th century.

Around 1300: Heinrich von Lichteneck sold his castle.

1341-1537: The Sattelbogen family owned the castle.

From 1640: The Pelkov family owned it.

The castle was already in disrepair in the second half of the 16th century.

The castle ruins today

A 20 m high keep made of quarry stone masonry and the remains of a house are witnesses to the former knightly glory.

Every year in July, the Lichtenegg Castle Festival, known far beyond the borders of Eastern Bavaria, takes place in the courtyard of the castle ruins.
