The church from the 15th century stands directly on the Weser dike. It was badly damaged by the devastating storm surge in 1962, which is why it is now protected by a sheet pile wall. It is actually called St. Mary's Church, but is also called the “Schifferkirche” by the population, who are very attached to shipping.

Because of the close connection of the population with the shipping the St-Marien church is also called "Schifferkirche". The basic structure of the building is estimated in the first quarter of the 15th century. Since the devastating storm surge of 1962, the church is protected by a sheet pile wall (Wikipedia).

Almost a little inconspicuous, this church lies between dike and street. The fact that once a church was built here is unusual.
