The Schietingen Blacksmith Museum

In Schietingen there is a rarity worth seeing for the documentation of the history of the craft, namely one of the few still functioning blacksmith museums in the Karlsruhe administrative district.

It is housed in a small, crooked house that was built in 1885 by the blacksmith August Luz on the burnt-down foundations of a previous building.

On July 26, 1884, blacksmith Luz received permission from the Nagold district office to rebuild his blacksmith workshop "on the old surrounding walls." August Luz's father was the blacksmith Johann Georg Luz. He had purchased the previous forge on the same site from his brother, the blacksmith Johann Jakob Lutz, on July 3, 1847.

The forge is equipped with all the necessary tools and equipment: a forge that contained the fire to heat the metals and a bellows to maintain an even heat. There is also an anvil as a base for hewing and bending the iron and steel parts to be manufactured; there are also hammers in different shapes and for different purposes, as well as chisels with which the blacksmith gave the parts shape.

After the restoration, the forge was inaugurated as a museum in 1986. It is still functional today and is occasionally used for information events.
