The castle complex was built from basalt around 1300 and has not been used since the beginning of the 17th century. The Maienburg was secured by two ramparts and ditches. The western part of the ring wall, the south tower and the lower part of the keep with the castle dungeon are still preserved today. A footpath leads into the interior of the castle ruins.
