Ore mining probably began in Treseburg around the year 1400 or earlier. In the middle of the 15th century, there was already a smelting works with a smelting ditch. After a long interruption in operations, ore mining was resumed in 1714 and continued with further interruptions until 1777. The mine was given the name "Braunschweiger Zeche bei der Treseburg". The mine was ultimately 280 m long and 700 m deep. Sulfur pyrite and chalcopyrite were mined, as well as small amounts of malachite, azurite and pyrite. A tunnel still exists today. The section under the Bode is under water, however.
