Catène du Container

The sculpture is located in a prominent position near the entrance to the port of Le Havre. It was created in 2017 by Vincent Ganivet to mark the port's 500th anniversary and consists of colored shipping containers arranged in two arches.

The port city's new landmark has been standing directly on the promenade since 2017. It refers to the two arches of the "Catène du Container" arranged one above the other. To mark the port's 500th anniversary, the French artist Vincent Ganivet created the monumental work, known as the "container chain". Consisting of colored standard containers, it symbolizes the city's maritime and commercial vocation. The larger of the two arches consists of 21 containers. The arch is almost 30 meters high. The arch below, offset by 90°, encloses 15 containers.
