The nature reserve De Drenk - De Lokker has traditionally been a
water-rich area. In 1400, the Bijloop meandered three kilometres
through the area. The nature reserves De Drenk-De Lokker and Hazenmeren were in danger of drying up. The Reconstruction Committee De Baronie has designated these areas as ‘wet natural pearls’. This means that the soil of the areas must become wetter. For example, closed fens have been dug open again. From the Sprundelsebaan in Zundert to the Oosteindseweg in Rijsbergen, the original Bijloop has been restored. The stream flows through the large Lokker swamp again, just as it used to.
