The nature reserve at the mouth of the Tiroler Ache is one of the last large, natural landscapes in the Federal Republic of Germany.
Large areas of wet meadows, undeveloped river banks with extensive shallow water zones and reed fields, species-rich alluvial forests and a largely natural estuary of the Tiroler Ache are the habitat of many animals and plants threatened with extinction.
Mostly unintentional disturbances by humans and changes in habitats have led to a threatening decline in animal and plant populations.
The main aim of the protective measures introduced is to stop this decline and to preserve and regenerate the existing populations.
As a basis for achieving the protection goals, the government of Upper Bavaria expanded the existing nature reserve with effect from January 1, 1987 and designated a new nature reserve enlarged to 1,250 hectares.
We are all called upon to preserve this unique area.
