The Barger Heide is a beautiful nature reserve with several benches for relaxing. The flowers are already starting to fade a bit at the beginning of September. Nevertheless, a hike is highly recommended 👍 The field with the fertile plants, intended to enrich the soil, is lovely. It's teeming with butterflies 🦋 and bees 🐝. A truly beautiful sight 👍.

The Barger Heide is a protected landscape area located in the south of the city of Stade. It covers an area of approximately 40 hectares. Situated amidst agricultural land, meadows, and fields, it is reserved for nature and recreation. During the last Ice Age, vast quantities of stones and sand were transported into the landscape by the ice. After the ice retreated, the westerly winds blew the sand into dunes. This dune landscape is still evident in the Barger Heide today, characterized by its undulating surface with elevation differences of up to 4 meters. It rises from 5 meters at the western edge to 11 meters above sea level.

The city of Stade purchased the Barger Heide in 1980. Since then, it has been able to develop largely undisturbed. It has expanded, with grasslands and encroaching shrubs increasingly displacing the heathland.

To ensure the long-term preservation of the heath as a habitat, it has been aerated.

The Barger Heide is always worth a visit, no matter the season. Highly recommended.
