The church stands on the hill Sant'Ilario and was built between 1665 and 1670. According to the excavations in 1987, there was a chapel from the Carolingian period (8th century). The simple wooden construction was replaced by masonry. The conversion from a simple chapel to a little church probably took place between 1350 and 1400. The present plan was given to the church in the 16th century. At the new wall on the east side of the rectangular choir a part of the Carolingian apse was preserved; Through the small window the light falls on the main altar. Between 1550 and 1690, the sacristy, the Staffieri chapel, a small liaison hall and the stucco work on the ceiling were realized. At the same time, the vault, which required a slight elevation of the building, and the present altar, which includes the earlier ones, arose.
