It is the only remaining tower of the city wall built in the 13th century under the reign of Alfonso III (1248 - 1279). The two-storey tower received its clock in 1673, from which the building takes its name. Since 2008 it has housed the Old Town Museum of Caminha, which shows the history and urban development of the municipality on the Minho.
