The "Sültsoid" receives its special character from several brine springs springing up in the area, which have led to salt-affected areas. On these saline soils, a specialized vegetation has set in, which can be found in comparable form in the salt marshes on the sea coast.
The NSG "Sültsoid" belongs to the FFH area "Heder mit ThülerMoorkomplex" (Natura 2000 DE-4317-303) and to the European bird sanctuary "Hellwegbörde" (Natura 2000 DE-4415-401).
