At the site of the fountain, which was inaugurated in 1982, the "Mäckelmarkt" was held from the 18th to the 20th century, where bricklayers and master bricklayers concluded their contracts for the coming year in winter. In 1910 there were around 14,000 bricklayers in Lippe, or around 10 percent of the population.
Here you can also start the Tichler route (Tichler=bricklayer), which leads 40 km via Lage-Leopoldshöhe-Lemgo back to Lage and, through information boards, gives an insight into the historical relevance of this craft for the Lippe region and in which places the bricklayer tradition is still kept alive today.
