The 2.24 hectare island lies less than 60 meters off the south coast of the main island of Réunion. It stretches over 290 meters from northeast to southwest, is a maximum of 100 meters wide and reaches a height of 32 meters. Petite Île gave its name to the municipality of Petite-Île, to which it belongs. On a map of Réunion from 1661 it is listed as Roches Islet.
