In October 2017, four segments of the Berlin Wall were installed in Kalijodo Park in North Jakarta. In the 1970s, the Indonesian artist Teguh Ostenrik studied in Berlin. When the Wall fell in 1990, he traveled back to Berlin and bought four segments of the Wall. He had an art installation in mind, but was only able to partially realize it in Kalijodo Park in 2017 with the title ‘Patung Menembus Batas’ - a sculpture that overcomes borders.
Teguh Ostenrik artistically reworked the four segments of the Wall in Jakarta, added wall drawings and positioned 14 steel figures in front of them. The installation was presented to the public on the occasion of German Unity Day on October 3, 2017.
