The hunting lodge was built in 1748/49 based on a design by Johann David Steingruber. It is the only secular building in the margrave style in the area of the former Duchy of Coburg. Duke Franz Josias had the stately hunting lodge built because he loved the wooded surroundings of Rodach as a hunting area. He died there on September 16, 1764. But his successors, Duke Ernst Friedrich and the then Crown Prince Franz, also came to Rodach again and again to hunt.
