The Amtshaus is a two-storey half-timbered building from 1765 directly on the main street. It was built as the official residence of the officials of Amt Meinersen. Previously stood at this point the castle Meinersen, of which there are still wall fragments found in the ground. After the dissolution of the office in 1885, the house served until 1959 as the official residence of the judge at the district court. Then it was used as a kindergarten, until in the 1980s it became an artists' house with six studio apartments. Here, artists from Germany and abroad spend a year in rural seclusion. The Künstlerhaus has been in municipal ownership since 1989 and is managed by a supporting association of local authorities, art colleges and industrial companies (Volkswagen AG).
