San Francisco's Chinatown, centered on Grant Avenue and Stockton Street, is the oldest in North America and one of the largest Chinese enclaves outside Asia. Established in the early 1850s, it has played a crucial role in the history and culture of Chinese immigrants in North America.

We liked Chinatown in SF much better than in NY. We were lucky enough to be there on a Saturday and were able to experience a market day with a traditional Chinese parade.

Running

The oldest, arguably most authentic, and probably largest Chinatown in the US, but certainly the most densely populated neighborhood in San Francisco. Originally mostly based on mid 19th century Cantonese immigrants from South-eastern China, many of whose descendants still don't speak English as they just deal among each other, in recent decades a wave of Mandarin speaking immigrants have mixed in.
