Located in Rocca Malatina, the Sofia horse chestnut is on private property but can be seen from the road side.
Precisely because of its size and shelter, the tree was used during the Second World War by a retreating German unit of the Afrika Korps, first as a munitions depot and later as an open-air school for radio operators.
