The Antonius Abtkapel is a chapel in Straten in the municipality of Oirschot in the Dutch province of North Brabant. The chapel is located on a triangle of roads: De Bollen street ends at Straten street. A little further on, about 100 meters away, is the Sint Antoniusweg street.
According to local tradition, Saint Anthony Abbot was worshiped in Straten from around 1400 onwards. Local worship has continued to take shape over time with different chapels in the same place.
An act from 1481 mentions the construction of a chapel, but in 1528 people were already talking about the old capelle, which then served as a house. The chapel is also mentioned in court documents from 1506.
A stone chapel was built in 1643, which was demolished after 1648 on the orders of the States General. Nevertheless, the population regularly rebuilt chapels from sods.
It was not until 1853 that a new stone chapel was built which still stands today. Wikipedia

Legend: Saint Anthony with the curse is invoked against the plague. According to legend, so many people died during a plague epidemic that people no longer dared to bury them for fear of infection. When they had prayed to the saint, one day a white horse appeared, which of its own accord pulled itself into front of a chariot and thus carried the bodies to the cemetery. Every house from which someone was transported by the horse was immediately free from this disease, the already infected people were cured. After the last dead person had been removed, the horse disappeared. This miracle was attributed to Saint Anthony, and a chapel was built on the spot where the horse had appeared.
