Since the mid-17th century, the Mellnitz estate on Rügen was owned by the city of Stralsund. The manor house was built around 1830 on an older fieldstone base and cellar vaults and, like the park, is a listed building. Until the end of World War II, the property housed an oil mill on over 300 hectares of land. Afterward, it served as accommodation for numerous refugees. Later, as part of the land reform, it was repopulated, and agricultural use ended. During these years, the farm buildings and outbuildings were used only rarely and were partially demolished.
