The Hällkar, natural depressions in centuries-old Bohus granite, are filled with fresh water when it rains, and occasionally washed over with saltwater after storms. In summer, an amazing variety of algae, water striders, and microorganisms develop in the warmest pools. Particularly photogenic in backlight in the early morning, when the red granite and the still water of the pools mirror each other. Be careful on wet rocks, the granite quickly becomes slippery when moist.
