The village of Ballinskelligs (BAILE AN SCEILIG) marks the beginning of a Gaeltacht, where the signs are in Gaelic. If you like swimming, you can go to the fine sandy beach. Also note the ruins of the priory and the associated seaside cemetery (free admission). In the 12th century, a monastery was founded here by monks who lived on the island of Skellig Michael, but the ruins visible today date from the 15th century.
