I find this observation tower very interesting. Unfortunately, it is not open very often. You can only go up it on Sundays. There are many stairs until you reach a terrace with a great view. If you want to see even better, you have to take the very narrow stairs to the top of the tower. There is a small viewing platform there. From the top you can see the surroundings very well in all directions.

Next to the tower there are many garden benches and tables. There is also a small hut. The route to the Bismarck Tower is somewhat steep, but not very difficult.

The Herford Bismarck Tower was and always is a popular tourist destination with a very historical background.

In the middle of the 19th century, there were four kingdoms, seven principalities, six grand duchies, five duchies and three free cities on “German soil”. After the Wars of Liberation in 1815, the population increasingly wanted a national unity in Germany.

Otto von Bismarck had succeeded in uniting Germany with great diplomatic skill.

As a thank you, Emperor Wilhelm I gave him the inheritable title of prince and the Sachsenwald, the largest contiguous forest area in Schleswig Holstein, southeast of Hamburg, measuring 70 km2. That is the equivalent of around 9800 football pitches.

The club's membership fees make it possible to hold a large midsummer festival with a varied program at the tower every year in June. You meet people here.

A nice place to linger along the route.
