While (some) English maps name it ‘Guangzhou Emancipation Memorial’, the translation of the chinese characters is ‘Guangzhou Liberation Memorial Statue’, and it shows a PLA soldier with a rifle in his right and a flower bouquet in his left hand. It was erected in 1959.
