Rock Creek Park itself is a woodsy oasis in the DC metro area. While Beach drive is a main commuter route during the week, it is closed (for the majority of its length) 7am Saturday to 7pm Sunday every weekend. While the north half is currently under construction for repaving until Fall 2019 (per NPS website), it is a great route to just ride through the woods on a well paved road, stop for a picnic or hike along the way, or take a car free route from NW DC to Maryland or keep going farther into the Rock Creek Park network.
