At the southwestern tip of the ancient city of Megara, in a quarry the remains of a large circular tower were discovered in 1950 in excavations along with the foundations of smaller buildings. The tower is associated with the guarding of the Skironida road that led to Corinth. However, during the excavations, evidence of the presence of a small temple or hero in the same place was found, related to the monument of the mythical king Kara, who built the citadel of Caria and the sanctuaries of Demeter, called "Megara", from which the city probably derives its name. The area also offers a good view of the Saronic Gulf and the city of Megara. The site is accessible on from the back of the quarry. pamemegara.gr/archeologiki-chori
