This is where the first Swiss troops landed on June 1, 1814 after the departure of the French soldiers. For 15 years, Geneva had been in French hands; it would enter the Swiss Confederation, a process that was completed on May 19, 1815.
Far from a modest double row of stilts of 1814, the Port-Noir can now accommodate a total of just over 400 boats. The private SNG port adjacent to the Port-Noir has 1,000 mooring places.

Marina managed by the Société Nautique de Genève.
On June 1, 1814, the first Confederate troops made up of about 300 soldiers from Fribourg and Solothurn landed at Port-Noir. The troops could not reach Geneva by land - via the Swiss Road - because French contingents still occupied certain territories between Nyon and Geneva. The Port-Noir episode marked the liberation of Geneva, the end of the French occupation and the beginning of the process of Geneva's entry into the Swiss Confederation. This would end on May 19, 1815, when Geneva officially became the 22nd Swiss canton.
