The pumping station went into operation in 1963 and regulates the water level of the Schacksgraben (old boize). In the pumping station is a Sohlgleite as fish ladder.
A pumping station is a lifting device for water. It is one of the oldest man-made technical facilities. The main area of use is irrigation for agriculture, when the fields are higher than the water (eg river), but also the opposite of that, the drainage of land (eg Koogen or swamps) or the land reclamation or drainage of Lowlands and marshes at the lake and rivers. The water is raised to create a slope for its course, for example, into the sea.
