Molen Sint Jan has a history of hundreds of years. This makes it the oldest authentic windmill in Weert. References to the existence of this windmill even go back to the 16th century. Between 1898 and 1968 the mill was owned by the Maes brewing family. In the mill yard is a bronze bust of miller Lei van de Winkel who continued to grind at the mill as a miller until a very old age. Today, volunteer millers operate the mill.

Mountain biking

The miller is regularly present, usually on Saturdays, when the mill can be visited for free. The wooden mill is one of the 37 remaining standard wooden mills in the Netherlands and its blades are still rotated regularly. The wooden box of the mill rotates on a huge oak trunk, so that the blades can be positioned in the wind. Interesting and definitely worth a visit!
