The name Leiner Berg (Glyner Berg) as well as the Leiner See derive from a desert village or a ministerial castle Glin (Lords of Glyn 1237–1335). Traces of this original settlement were found during forestry work as early as 1900. To the north and east of Lake Leiner and the Löbben, once a popular excursion and bathing destination and now just a swamp area, there is a richly structured forest and meadow landscape with centuries-old solitary willows and oaks and many hiking trails.
