The stone Buddhas are located in Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park and were built in the Kamakura period around 700 years ago.At that time, an important trade route ran here that connected Kyoto with Kamakura. Due to volcanic activity, the road was feared and was also known as the "Hell Road". People prayed to the Buddhas for a good journeyThe stone sculptures include a 3.5 m high seated Rokudō Jizō from 1299; three Hitaki Jizō from 1311, one of which measures 1.24 m and the other two are smaller; and twenty-five Bosatsu, as well as a group of twenty-six sculptures (between 1293 and 1313 AD)
