The Weilburg shipping tunnel is the oldest and longest shipping tunnel in Germany that is still navigable today. It runs 195 metres from north to south under the Mühlberg, on which the town of Weilburg is located, thus avoiding a bend in the Lahn that is around two kilometres long and has two weirs. The tunnel was built between 1844 and 1847 and today, together with the parallel road and railway tunnels, forms the so-called Weilburg tunnel ensemble.(Source: Wikipedia)
