A large pillar as a blank canvas and paint whatever you want. Four artists have tackled four pillars for the urban art project UPRIGHT in the Heuvel shopping center in Eindhoven.

Each artist was given their own pillar and they were allowed to determine the design themselves. There were almost 200 registrations in total. This allowed the jury to make a selection. Each pillar is therefore painted in a different style. This is how you see the abstract and organic work of Andre HZS. But also the colorful and illustrative of Kid Kura. Realistic animals and plants are painted on Nina Valkhoff's pillar. Space was also given to new talent.

Upright
Jasper van Es, the founder of the project, believes it is important that street artists are also treated and paid seriously. And that they are given the space to tell their own story.

“In street art this is not so obvious at all. They are often told exactly what should be on a wall and a design first goes through the marketing department. Ultimately it is more of an advertising painting. In my projects I always want to challenge urban artists to look for their own artistic identity. And that was achieved in this project. Each pillar is really almost a portrait of the maker.”
