According to a year stone in the facade, the former parsonage of Rummen dates from 1630. It was a Premonstratensian parsonage, but the building complex depicted in the map book of Averbode Abbey drawn up around 1660 differs greatly from the current one at first glance. It is still very much in keeping with the 16th-century pleasure gardens (closed complex, square corner tower with bell roof and onion spire) and traditional architecture (cross and monastery frames, brick masonry with layers of bacon, stepped gables, upstairs room). Like many 'houses of peace' and parsonages of that period, it is surrounded by a ring moat, which encloses an almost rectangular island (in this case 170 m by 40 m). The current parsonage is the result of renovations in the second quarter of the 18th century, as evidenced by the year marks '1723' on the lintel of the door and '1738' on a reused stone of the fanlight.
