The South Bank Grand Arbor is a mile-long sculpture installation in the South Bank Parklands. The structure functions as a pedestrian walkway. The arbor follows the course of the former Expo 88 boat channel. The structure consists of 443 steel vines up to ten meters high, supporting a lush canopy of purple bougainvillea.
Initially, the arbor was not well received as it looked odd without any vegetation.
